Volunteer Opportunities Help your Child. Volunteer with OMS PTSA.

More than 30 years of research has proven that children do better when their parents are involved both at home and in school. Grades are higher. Test scores rise. Self-esteem grows. Schools improve.

Our volunteers allow us to do so many things for our school that we could not do without your help.  PTSA needs volunteers to continue the programs & activities PTSA brings to OMS. Many volunteer positions do not require much time and have flexible schedules; some can even be done at home! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact any PTSA Executive Board member. Whether it’s 1 hour or 100 hours, every second counts.

All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Registration Form to be eligible to volunteer in a Pinellas County school.  This is for the safety of our children.  Please bring the completed form to the front office with your current Driver’s License or State I.D.

AVAILABLE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

  • We are looking for Committee members in all areas to join us for the 2008/09 school year. We always welcome new members to the PTSA! Come and support your school and have fun doing it!
  • Additional Volunteer opportunities are available - just ask any PTSA Executive Board member or contact the OMS Volunteer Coordinator, Adrienne Mizia by email, miziaa@pcsb.org or phone 727-547-7689, ext. 110.

Guardian ad Litem

A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is a court appointed special advocate for an abused, abandoned or neglected child. The GAL, working as a team with an attorney and a case coordinator, becomes familiar with all aspects of the child’s circumstances and makes recommendations to the court to ensure a safe, caring, stable and permanent home. They are the child’s voice in court.

YOU can make a difference in a child’s life! For more information on how to become a Guardian ad Litem, go to www.guardianadlitem6.org or call 1-866-341-1425.

Suncoast VOICES For Children Foundation (SVC)

This foundation has been supporting the Guardian ad Litem program since 2004. Children who are removed from their homes due to abuse, abandonment or neglect have many unmet needs. They are often forced to change schools and miss classes. They are often removed from their home with nothing but the clothes on their back. There is no funding to allow them to particiapte in activities such as scouting, sports, field trips or even to attend a birthday party, let alone HAVE a birthday cake themselves. With the support of grants and donations from the community, SVC is able to provide for these children’s needs.

For more information about SVC, how to make a donation or how to become a volunteer, please go to www.suncoastchildren.org or call (727) 582-3668
